Danny Dyer has opened up about his EastEnders exit and criticised the storylines towards the end of his decade long run on the soap.

Dyer played Mick Carter on the soap from 2013 until his departure this Christmas where he appeared to drown after attempting to save his ex-wife Linda.

Talking to YouTube channel iflTV about his final months on the soap, Dyer said he wasn't happy with the storylines that led up to his departure: "I didn't quite know how [Mick's final scenes were] gonna go down.

"I felt my character had lost his way. I didn't quite know who I was playing anymore, it was a really odd thing."

Dyer added: "I'm very grateful for that job. It was a good gig, but now it's time to move on. I wanna get out again and make some low-budget films."

The Football Factory actor also acknowledged the potential to return and compared the ambiguity of his death to Harold Bishop's famous return in Neighbours.

Despite saying he wishes to return to low-budget movies, Dyer's next project is the Netflix gameshow Cheat which he will present with comedian Ellie Taylor.

Cheat is set to premiere on 1 March and will run for 12 episodes.

Netflix describe the show as: "In a binge-worthy battle of brains, wit… and barefaced lying, four brave players have their knowledge put to the ultimate test as they bluff and blag across three rounds to avoid elimination and build a potential jackpot of over £50,000. But however you play it, there's just one crucial rule… don't get caught!"

Taylor also said: "Quiz shows, cheating, Danny Dyer calling people slippery little bastards, fun... Then this is the show for you. Plus crucially, my outfits are absolutely banging (I imagine Alexander Armstrong tweeted this exact sentence when Pointless was announced)."
