Danny Long to be inducted into East Texas Coaches Association Hall of Fame

Feb. 6—LONGVIEW — A Jacksonville High School coaching legend will soon be inducted into the East Texas Coaches Association Hall of Fame.

Danny Long, who served as the Indians' head coach from 1991-2002, is set to be one of seven inductees to be included in the Class of 2024.

Others slated to be instilled into the hall of fame include: head coach Chad Morris, who coached at high schools in Eustace, Elysian Fields, Bay City, Stephenville and Lake Travis; Bruce Taylor, who will be honored with the Kyle Preston, Assistant Coach Award; player Jeremiah Trotter, who prepped at Hooks High School under another former Jacksonville High head coach, Steve Wells; Bill Coates (KTBB Radio), Distinguished Service Award and football official Eddie Williams of the East Texas Texas Association of Sports Officials East Texas Chapter.

Football teams from Timpson, Malakoff and Gilmer will be honored for winning state championships in 2023.

Long, who ended his run at Jacksonville with a 94-47 record (.667 winning percentage), according to texashighschoolfootballhistory.com, coached one season at Baytown Sterling after leaving Indian Country. He went on to serve as athletic director at the Tyler Independent School District and at the Conroe Independent School District.

Now retired from the public school sector, Long currently serves as vice president of student leadership and athletic director at Jacksonville College.

Those scheduled for special recognition will be honored during the ETCA Hall of Fame banquet, which will get under way at 6 p.m., Saturday, March 2 at The Holiday Inn North-Infinity Event Center, 300 Turtle Creek Circle, Longview.
