Sheffield Wednesday head coach Danny Rohl offered a sympathetic outlook to his compatriot Tim Walter after the Hull City chief was roundly jeered by his own supporters during Tuesday night's 2-0 win at the MKM Stadium.

For the second time this season, Rohl has beaten Walter in East Yorkshire and in truth, the margin of error could, and should, have been greater for the visitors, who did score through Josh Windass' first half penalty and a late Michael Smith strike.

City's fourth straight defeat leaves them winless in nine games and stuck inside the Championship's bottom three after only three wins in their opening 17 games, with fans demanding owner Acun Ilicali sack Walter before Saturday's trip to in-form Middlesbrough.

Walter embraced his family at the end of another forgettable MKM Stadium game, and is now on the brink of losing his job, but Rohl says he hopes the ex-Hamburg boss can turn it around.

"I'm convinced this team needs just one moment, and then you create self-confidence. For a manager it's not easy when you hear the home crowd like this, it was very loud (the jeers)," Rohl told Hull Live at the MKM Stadium. "I feel for him. Nobody should forget we are humans. No manager will sit there and say do this wrong, we try every day to improve, to win games and it's hard for a manager.

"Hull is still a good team. When you look back at all their games, in every game they have moments where they can score and miss chances. I believe if this team can score their first chance they can push up again.

"It's hard for a manager. I've been here for one year now and at the moment it goes a little bit easier for me, but I know in football it can also change quick and it isn't always hard to take. It's not just for him, you should not forget there's the family behind him. With something like this, I imagine I'm in the stadium and my kids are in the stadium and the whole stadium is singing against me, it could be very harmful for my family and for this, I wish him all the best and to keep going."
