Danny Rose: Tottenham need a bigger squad and marquee signing to improve

Tottenham need a marquee signing this summer as they look to improve in the Premier League and Champions League next season, says Danny Rose.

For the second season running, Spurs ran the eventual title winners close before falling short while a return to Champions League action after six years ended with a disappointing group stage exit.

With Manchester City having already kicked off their summer spending by signing Bernardo Silva from Monaco for a reported £43 million, Rose acknowledges the financial disparity between Spurs and their title rivals but stressed the need for a bigger squad.

"We could have a bit of a better squad, depth in the squad," Rose told BBC 5 live. "Thankfully, nothing has ever happened to Dele since he's come to the club - imagine if that happened. Or if Christian got injured.

"We've been lucky with Lamela being injured for large parts of the season and going to a back three so we've fit Christian [Eriksen] and Dele [Alli] in without any problems and Sonny [Heung-min Son]. We could have a bigger and better depth in the squad."

He continued: "It's difficult for us as a club to compete with City, United, Liverpool, Chelsea and Arsenal. The aim for the club should be to find the next Dele. I know it's easier said than done but to find someone from the lower leagues and make them a star.

"For the next season coming, we have to do a lot better in the Champions League and make one marquee signing that can help us push forward."
