Rising Liverpool star Darren Till defeated Stephen ‘Wonderboy’ Thompson via unanimous decision in a close fight on Saturday night at UFC Liverpool but it didn’t come without controversy as fighters and analysts took to twitter over the decision.

Till said: “They are saying it could have gone either way. Listen, I do think I won the fight, every single person, every UFC fighter all expected me to go in there and get wiped clean by Stephen Thompson. Now they’re shocked, they expected him to run rings around me and he didn’t do that.

“I think 90% of the fighters tweeting aren’t even in my weight class, so why are they hating on me? Maybe it is because I was able to bring the number one contender to Liverpool but its just the way the cookie crumbles sometimes. That shows their weakness not mine.”

Till told Ariel Helwani on The MMA Hour he would be happy to have a rematch with Thompson but feels it would be the same fight again.

He added: “I heard Thompson’s dad say they want to do it again in their backyard in South Carolina to see what happens then. I messaged Mick Maynard straight away, if they want to take it to Stephen Thompson’s hometown lets do it I will gladly go there and it will be the same fight again.”

In case you wondered if Till will stay at welterweight following him missing weight at UFC Liverpool due to a family emergency the Liverpool fighter confirmed he will stay at Welterweight.

The 25 year old insists: “I can still make welterweight I’m just going to have to be more on it and lighter. I’m still fighting at welterweight.”
