Liverpool continued their encouraging start to the season with victory over Brentford on Sunday. Luis Diaz and Mohamed Salah scored the goals as the Reds earned a comfortable 2-0 triumph.

The result means Arne Slot has become the first Liverpool boss since Graeme Souness in 1991 to win his first two games in charge - and even then Souness had both games at home.

But there was plenty that went unnoticed or under the radar during the 90 minutes at Anfield.

Nunez gets involved

There were swift reunions at Anfield for two former Liverpool players, with Sepp van den Berg and Fabio Carvalho back at their old stomping ground having switched to Brentford during the transfer window.

While van den Berg remained on the bench, Carvalho managed to feature for the final quarter as a substitute, emerging to warm applause from the home crowd.

But earlier on, the Portuguese saw his warm-up on the touchline hampered to comic effect by former team-mate Darwin Nunez, who took a break from his own preparations to begin jokingly pushing and nudging Carvalho. Darwin gotta Darwin.

Carvalho given message

Carvalho may have been on the losing side at Anfield but he was all smiles after the game as he caught up with some of his old colleagues.

The Brentford man in particular spent a long time chatting with Salah before making his way on to the visiting team bus.

And there were also words of encouragement from Slot, who made a point of imploring Carvalho makes the most of the opportunity to show his true self during his time at the London club.

Holland says hello

The arrival of Slot and many of his coaching staff has increased a Dutch contingent at Liverpool that already contained Virgil van Dijk, Cody Gakpo and Ryan Gravenberch.

Regulars sat near the tunnel at Anfield will also know there has for some time been a small but vociferous part of Holland that turns up to watch the Reds.

And they made a point of greeting Slot with a banner of his image emblazoned with the message "From Bergenheim to Anfield, we got your back Arne". Which is nice.

Silver lining for Kat

A big occasion for Slot meant a turn-out of some familiar names at Anfield on Sunday, chief of which was Liverpool principal owner John Henry who was there with his wife Linda Pizzuti.

Also in attendance were Reds sporting director Richard Hughes, club legend Kenny Dalglish, Liverpool city mayor Steve Rotheram, music man Calvin Harris and former Premier League chief executive Richard Scudamore.

And Olympic heptathlon silver medallist and massive Liverpool fan Katarina Johnson-Thompson was presented with a home shirt with her name on the back at half-time.
