Daryl Powell says his Warrington side only have themselves to blame following their late 32-24 defeat at home to Salford.
It was the club’s 11th defeat of the season, sitting third from bottom in the table.
Salford scored three tries in the last 10 minutes to snatch victory at the Halliwell Jones Stadium, with a double from Jack Ormondroyd and Ryan Brierley sealing the win on 76 minutes.
A deflated Powell said his side only have themselves to blame, having led 24-8 with 25 minutes to go.
Speaking in his post-match press conference, Powell said: “Obviously we’re hugely disappointed. I thought we started the game a little bit loose. I thought our start to the second half was outstanding, starting with Joe Bullock’s run right from the kick-off.
“At 24-8, you’re in an awesome position and then we dropped the ball from the kick-off and concede straight away which is ultimately where it all started.
“I think our thinking on those kind of situations is not strong enough. I just thought there were a couple of errors inside our 20 on play two or three, then a forced pass from Danny Walker around 40 metres out and it’s those sort of things that puts us under pressure which we just don’t handle.
Daryl Powell: You can’t lose that game from that position, it’s just crazy.
“Mentally, we don’t handle the pressure that that puts on us which is massively disappointing.
“You can’t lose that game from that position, it’s just crazy.
“All we needed from that position was everybody to do their jobs effectively, kick the ball well, defend tough and then we’d have been in a good position.
“They throw a fair bit at you, but we have ourselves to blame for losing that. We’ve got to be stronger mentally and physically to be able to deal with the pressure that we’re under there.
“We should be better than what we are at the moment.”
Warrington were without marquee half-back George Williams due to injury, but Powell is hopeful to have the England international back in time for Magic Weekend.
