Dashinski finishes season with win

Dmitri Dashinski brought the curtain down on the FIS freestyle skiing aerials season in some style with a first victory of the campaign in Myrkdalen-Voss, Norway.

It was a seventh straight top-ten finish for the 34-year-old from Belarus but the first time Dashinski has topped the podium since 2007 after he scooped 119.82 points for victory.

He narrowly edged out China’s Hang Zhou, who collected 114.81 points, while Ukraine’s Oleksandr Abramenko completed the podium in third with 102.7 points.

Dashinkski moved up to sixth in the overall rankings with a total of 315 points while Canada’s Olivier Rochon put the finishing touches to the season’s title by finishing ninth in Norway.

China’s Zongyang Jia began the day 78 points behind Rochon and with very slim hopes of overhauling the Canadian but he could only accrue 16 points for his 15th place finish Myrkdalen-Voss.

As a result, Rochon sits in second in the overall freestyle skiing World Cup points with 54.30 – well adrift of leader and moguls king Mikeal Kingsbury of Canada [91.67] who still has Sunday’s curtain-closing event in Megeve to extend his lead.

In the women’s event, 2011 world silver medallist Mengtao Xu put the finishing touches to her overall title with a fifth World Cup victory of the season, leading a Chinese 1-2-3, taking the win with 97.29 points.

Second went to Shang Cheng with 92.88 points while a score of 86.46 was good enough for bronze for Xin Zhang.

Mengtao began the day on 560 points, 90 ahead of her nearest rival Olga Volkova of Ukraine, safe in the knowledge that only a disaster would have seen the overall title slip through her fingers.

But her victory sees Mengtao in second place in the overall freestyle skiing rankings with 66 points but again well behind moguls ace Hannah Kearney who is streaking clear with 95.83.
