Former Everton manager David Moyes has previously failed to rule out a return to football management - but admitted he does not want to fight relegation. The Scottish tactician has emerged as a possible candidate to succeed Sean Dyche after he was sacked.

The Blues made the decision to relieve the ex-Burnley boss hours before their FA Cup third round tie against Peterborough United. Dyche leaves Goodison Park with Everton sitting 16th, one point clear of the relegation zone, with 19 matches remaining.

According to reports, Moyes, who has been out of the dugout since leaving West Ham United in the summer, is a contender to return to Merseyside for the club's final run at Goodison Park. Jose Mourinho and Paulo Fonseca, who was sacked by AC Milan at the end of December, have also been suggested as candidates.

The 61-year-old admitted in an interview with the BBC that he is not intending on stepping away from football management. He said: "I don't consider myself done yet but I am certainly enjoying some time off.

"The one thing I won't do is put any manager under pressure personally, because I don't believe in it. I have not liked it when I have been in that position myself.

"We are all getting a little bit older and I have to make sure I am doing the right thing for myself. Football is in my blood. It has been since I was a boy. I love watching football and I have enjoyed my career."

However, he added that he doesn't want to be fighting at the bottom of the table after turning around the Hammers' fortunes to help them to UEFA Conference League success.

"If there is another part to it, so be it," said Moyes. "But I would only want it to be a good part. I wouldn't want to be coming in and doing something which is very difficult.

"I don't want to be at the bottom of the league and fighting relegation which I have had a few times, so we will see how things go."
