David Moyes ‘delighted’ as West Ham kickstart busy summer with Nayef Aguerd signing

David Moyes has revealed new West Ham signing Nayef Aguerd impressed him with his “character and attitude” during talks before his £28million transfer to the London Stadium.

West Ham have made Aguerd their first summer signing in a deal Moyes expects to kick-start a summer recruitment drive.

The Morocco defender joins from Rennes and has signed a five-year contract.

Moyes made signing a left-footed centre-back a priority and Aguerd, who has 25 caps for Morocco, was his primary target.

West Ham have been locked in talks with Aguerd in recent weeks and Moyes has revealed how the 27-year-old impressed him during their discussions.

Moyes said: “I am delighted to welcome Nayef to West Ham United.

“We have tracked his progress for some time and I’m very pleased that we have been able to complete the signing. He’s a great addition that will add to our defensive options.

“I have been really impressed with Nayef’s character and attitude during our discussions.

“He has a great desire to improve and be successful, and I am sure he will fit in very well to the environment we have at Rush Green.”

Aguerd has enjoyed two impressive seasons at Rennes and arrives from Ligue 1 with a growing reputation. He will wear the No27 shirt at West Ham.
