Manchester United are “pushing” to sign Hoffenheim full-back David Raum, but the player’s representatives need convincing, according to a report.

The chase for the 24-year-old left-back was seemingly being led by West Ham. As per Bild, they, along with Borussia Dortmund, Newcastle and Man Utd are all reportedly keen on the player.

Raum’s efforts last season in the Bundesliga have pushed a number of clubs to make enquiries. Three goals and 13 assists from 32 Bundesliga appearances have left his representatives busy dealing with interest in him.

United are understood to be making a strong play for the defender, but they have stern competition from Dortmund. And that is apparently where his representatives see the player’s immediate future.

Florian Plettenberg has told Sky Sports Germany that United will have to convince his agents that Manchester poses a better career pathway than Dortmund.

“Manchester United are pushing,” Plettenberg said.

“We hear: A transfer to Manchester United can happen, (but) I don’t think it will happen so quickly because there is still Borussia Dortmund.”

Raum will have rivals at Dortmund

Plettenberg though believes behind the scenes that Raum is being urged to move to Bundesliga rivals Dortmund.

They have a track record of developing young talent with the likes of Jadon Sancho and current star Jude Bellingham flourishing at Signal Iduna Park.

BVB do have two left-backs already on their books though in the form of Nico Schulz and Raphael Guerreiro.

That may well be the blockage that allows United to get a deal over the line. But a deal is still far from complete and the report states no medical has been booked in.

Talks though have taken place with Raum said to be open to a move to the Premier League.

A price tag of around €30m to €35m will be required to push through a transfer as Erik ten Hag looks to revamp his full-back options.
