Arsenal goalkeeper David Raya has been perhaps in the least amount of focus among the team with the attention on the forward line and lack of finishing proving costly against Newcastle United and Manchester United.

Thankfully for Raya and Arsenal, the chances that fell to them were enough to be taken to beat Spurs, but still others were missed. Mikel Arteta felt relieved at full-time and made reference to the fact the Gunners should have finished the game off sooner.

Raya spoke to reporters after the game, and made reference to the ball simply not finding its way into the back of the net. However, the determination to find that goal did indeed come true.

“The chances are there it's just sometimes the ball doesn't want to go in,” Raya said. “Obviously, the other team plays as well, they make some good blocks, the goalkeeper made a couple of good saves.

“That's it. The only thing is sometimes when they have a chance the ball goes in the back of the net, like today, it's a deflection. You just have to keep going, keep creating those chances, and from those situations, the ball in the end is going to go in.”

Up next is Aston Villa, the side that brought an end to the Gunners’ hopes of winning the title last season. The narrative is obvious, and Raya is making no illusions about that challenge, but equally, the motivation the team have to win the game.

“We want to win every single game,” he said. “No matter the opposition.

“We know how good Aston Villa are and we just have to focus on ourselves and then the next one. We play Aston Villa next and we just have to recover, train and be ready for Saturday.

“We know how tough it's going to be but we are going to be ready to win the game and get the three points.”

A win there would certainly solidify Arsenal back in the title race and with Liverpool travelling to Brentford, the Gunners will be hoping another chance to close the gap in just days will present itself. For Raya, he believes it is still too soon but made reference to the perception that others may have got wrong about their title rivals.

“It's just too early to think about the end of the season and the title race and everything. Three weeks ago, people were saying Liverpool had the title in their hands.

“It is just football. Everything changes in two, three games. We just have to focus on ourselves, try to win every game and we will see where we are at the end of the season.”
