Dechawat Poomjaeng regains professional status after five year hiatus from World Snooker Tour

Poomjaeng lost his tour card at the end of the 2016/17 campaign and failed to regain his professional status since.

However, victory in the final round of the Asia-Oceania Q School in Bangkok means the man known as Mr Poombastic will be able to play on the World Snooker Tour for the next two-years. The 43-year-old has always been a fan favourite, with the player notably making a name for himself in his last-16 run at the 2013 World Championship. During that event, the former world number 37 famously dumped out Stephen Maguire following a thrilling 10-9 victory at the Crucible.

Poomjaeng will now be looking to create fresh memories as he sets about his return to the professional tour. The player certainly showed a low of grit and determination during Q School as he recovered from a final round defeat to Thanawat Tirapongpaiboon in the first event. Things appeared to be heading in a similar direction as Poomjaeng lost the opening frame to Takantong in the final of the second Q School event. However, after reeling off two consecutive frames to take the lead, the 43-year-old looked far more assured at the table. Poomjaeng then went on to produce breaks of 61 and 78 as he powered to a memorable victory in Bangkok.
