Deep Dasgupta Hails Virat Kohli For Imbibing An Attacking Mindset In Tests, Feels He Wants Tests To Be Interesting

Former Indian batsman Deep Dasgupta felt that Virat Kohli is ready to even lose a test to make the format more interesting and hailed the Indian skipper for his aggressive approach. Kohli had his plans set out for day five and India did everything right on the fifth day to pick up a huge win at the Lord’s Test.

England had the edge over India on the final day with India having just the tailenders to bat, but Indian tailenders showed they are ready for the challenge. It almost India took to a position from which they cannot lose the team but they could push for a win still with 60 overs left in the day.

Deep Dasgupta Impressed By Virat Kohli’s Captaincy

Deep Dasgupta was particularly impressed with Kohli’s approach to giving it all on the final day despite the bowlers being tired after batting for a session. He added that Kohli has done this time and again to make the longer format more interesting and it has indeed imbibed a different mindset for the players.

“There could have been an easier thought there saying, you know what, the bowlers must be tired, just got what 60 odd overs. Maybe just let them bat for as long as possible. But something that we have seen under Virat’s captaincy is, he is ready to make Test matches more interesting, more entertaining.”

Deep Dasgupta Hails Virat Kohli For Being More Result Oriented

Deep Dasgupta was clear that Virat Kohli was a captain who wasn’t satisfied with a draw and wanted his boys to always go for the kill even with just 60 overs left in the day. He added that Kohli’s risk has paid off and his mindset was about making the Tests more entertaining rather than taking the safe approach.

“Making sure that the Test matches are result-oriented. He is ready to kind of, you know, he is alright losing a few Test matches at the cost of making Test matches more interesting,” Deep Dasgupta said on BBC’s Test Match Special podcast.
