Dele Alli’s Tottenham chance; Hudson-Odoi thriving with Tuchel; David Luiz’s Arsenal contract - talking points

As it stands, Dele Alli is unlikely to be granted his deadline-day move to Paris Saint-Germanic, with Tottenham chairman Daniel Levy unwilling to weaken the club’s squad mid-season without being able to sign a replacement.

If Dele stays put, the question is whether Jose Mourinho will reintegrate him into the team for the second half of the campaign, as he did with Tanguy Ndombele when Daniel Levy similarly refused to allow the Frenchman to leave in the summer.

Spurs could use Alli’s knack for goals, particularly with Harry Kane facing a fortnight out, but Mourinho appears unhappy with his attitude and work-rate which will presumably need to change if Alli is to be given another chance. Dan Kilpatrick

Hudson-Odoi is big in Germany

If Bayern Munich had their way, Callum Hudson-Odoi would have been the latest English starlet to be making his name in the Bundesliga. A move to European champions never materialised despite their strong interest - but his reputation in Germany preceded him in terms of his relationship with new Chelsea manager Thomas Tuchel.

Hudson-Odoi has gone from the fringes to key man overnight. Deployed at right wing-back, he has excelled in Tuchel’s first two games in charge and looks to have made the position his own.

His new manager admits the England international was on his radar long before he succeeded Frank Lampard and he’s wasted no time in sprinkling some of that German stardust on him at Stamford Bridge. James Robson

Luiz form sparks contract question

Last summer, David Luiz signing a contract extension did not go down well with Arsenal fans. Supporters were unhappy the Brazilian had been given another year in north London. However, as that deal comes to an end, the idea of Luiz getting a further 12 months suddenly doesn’t seem so farfetched.

The 33-year-old has been in good form recently, helping Arsenal concede just one goal in their past four League games. The Brazilian also plays a pivotal role at the training ground, proviacting as a role model for young players, and holding onto such a leader may well be an attractive idea for Mikel Arteta. Creative struggles show how Lingard can help West Ham

Many questioned whether West Ham needed a player like Jesse Lingard when he was signed from Manchester United last week. On the evidence of Sunday's defeat to champions Liverpool, as good as the champions were, David Moyes could tell you why they do.

Pinned back by the resurgent visitors, Jarrod Bowen, Pablo Fornals and Said Benrahma struggled to get beyond their opposing numbers and create anything for a starved Michail Antonio. Moyes had little to do in terms of changing things from the bench.

Andriy Yarmolenko was sent on to change things but offered little before the manager turned to Mark Noble instead of Manuel Lanzini. Lingard brings energy and an assured touch of quality and will keep everyone on their toes. Jack Rosser

Struggling AFC Wimbledon sack Glyn Hodges

AFC Wimbledon have been in dire form and Saturday’s 2-0 defeat against rivals MK Dons on their first trip to Plough Lane was the final straw for Glyn Hodges.

The Dons announced hours after the final whistle that manager Hodges had left by mutual consent following a run of 11 matches without a win that leaves them in the League One relegation zone.

Chief executive Joe Palmer felt he was left with no option but to make a change as they fight to stay up and has immediately started searching for a replacement. In the meantime, first-team coach Mark Robinson has been placed in interim charge. Simon Collings
