Delighted with win - but how much does that final league placing mean to you?

Brighton players and fans celebrate after Pascal Gross scored against West Ham
Brighton players and fans celebrate after Pascal Gross scored against West Ham

We asked these Albion fans for their reaction to the season-ending win over West Ham.

Then we sought their thoughts on the league placing - and how important was it to come ninth (ahead of Crystal Palace) rather than 13th?

See if you agree with their replies.

1. What were your thoughts on Albion’s performance?

Vicki Rees: The first half was a bit stodgy and lacked inspiration. At half time, it felt like everything that could go wrong, was. So it was great to see the second half turnaround: we were very worthy winners in the end.

Alan Brownings: Another great show and top level performance. The season has been immense in terms of where we’ve come, but you have to look at the dire home form for the best part of the season and question what could have been.

James Heasman: A fantastic second half to end the season. I did feel in the first half we were a little loose in possession and didn’t get players close enough to Welbeck. The introduction of Maupay changed all that, and West Ham couldn’t cope with the movement and intensity. It was a great 45 minutes.

Colin Beales: In the first half, West Ham looked organised and had the ball for long periods albeit not putting in too many shots until their goal. The second half was a different story. With Maupay on for Bissouma, we seemed to have much more attacking threat and caused them a lot of issues where we could have again got more goals than the end scoreline showed. A great way to finish off a fabulous season. Well done Graham and all the lads!

2. Who was/were your pick of the Albion players?

Vicki Rees: Caicedo looked good again, and it was really encouraging from a future perspective that we actually improved after Bissouma went off. Pascal Gross deserved his man of the match award.

Alan Brownings: Pascal Gross was excellent and has been Mr Reliable for the Albion. The way he bought himself a yard to find the time to turn and fire one in was sublime.

James Heasman: I felt Mac Allister was excellent in the second half, Webster played well in the first half but, overall, Joel Veltman. One of our best signings in recent years, the battle with Antonio made for great watching. Two good, honest players giving everything, and Veltman came out on top.

Colin Beales: Pascal Gross and Danny Welbeck for me were the standout performers, particularly in the second half. Please Pascal sign the contract, we want you to stay!

3. Albion went from a potential finish of 13th place to ninth in 45 minutes so how important to you is the final league placing - and finishing above Palace ?

Vicki Rees: I didn’t think it was that important to me until half-time, when it looked like we were throwing it away (thanks, of course, to a Zaha goal at Selhurst) and it suddenly felt like a terrible waste. When we got the goal to go ahead, it was an unashamedly satisfying moment. Ten points out of twelve is a superb finish to the season and a well-deserved top-half finish for what is undoubtedly the best Albion squad I’ve ever seen.

Alan Brownings: It seems like decades since we last finished above Palace, everyone forgets we did the year they beat us in the play-offs. They weren’t looking forward to this and so it’s nice to have the bragging rights.

BRIGHTON'S SOLLY MARCH DELIGHTED WITH PREMIER LEAGUE FINALE

James Heasman: Although I always want to finish above Palace, I’m very much into progression. Ninth is an amazing achievement and is a very challenging target for next season. It also gives us more money to reinvest.

Colin Beales: The tide has turned. Our well-run club has clawed its way out of the shadows of the lower leagues to be ninth in the Premier League. The best team south of the Thames. Palace have never achieved this many points and have never finished as high. Now our challenge is to continue to do so. I’m so delighted for everything Graham and the lads have achieved!
