Denver Broncos wide receiver Jerry Jeudy was arrested on Thursday by the Arapahoe County Sheriff's Department on a criminal tampering charge relating to an alleged dispute between the NFL star and the mother of his child. According to the Sheriff's Office, Jeudy was charged with second-degree criminal tampering with a domestic violence enhancer, a misdemeanour level offence. The domestic violence enhancer added by law enforcement ensures that Jeudy could not be released from custody until such time as he has appeared before a judge.
Domestic dispute ends in Jerry Jeudy's arrest
In a media briefing on Thursday, Arapahoe County Sheriff Tyler Brown gave sparse details of the case to gathered press. Sheriff Brown revealed that according to the information available at this time they believe no physical contact was made in the dispute between Jeudy and the mother of his 1-month-old daughter. "It solely involved property, and there was no damage to property," Brown said. Sheriff Brown would add that the domestic violence enhancer was applied to the case as a result of the relationship between the involved parties. According to police, Jeudy prevented the woman from retrieving several items, including her wallet, medical information for the child, a car seat and baby formula by locking them away in his car. The Sheriff added that the woman had tried to leave to return to her home in Virginia but was prevented from doing so by Jeudy, who had seized important documents and property. Authorities would add that the woman stated that she didn't want to get Jeudy in trouble but wanted her property returned.

In a statement made to police, Jeudy admitted to locking the items in his car, but said that he did so in reprisal after the woman took a cellphone from him and refused to return it. Sheriff Brown confirmed that the woman called the police from a neighbour after being unable to resolve the matter with Jeudy. Deputies were dispatched to Jeudy's Arapahoe County residence at 10:15 am local time as a "keep the peace" request. The Denver Broncos issued a terse statement on the arrest. "We are aware of the matter involving Jerry Jeudy and are in the process of gathering more information," the Broncos statement read.
