Derby County's highly-rated academy striker Lennon Wheeldon has secured a loan move to National League Boston United.

The move was confirmed this afternoon and it will see the former Notts County forward remain with the Pilgrims until January. He will join fellow Derby striker Tony Weston who is back training with Boston after overcoming a metatarsal injury.

Wheeldon has been on the radar of several National League clubs, but the Pilgrims have moved swiftly to secure a deal for the striker who has been in good form for club and country.

He will become the first signing for new manager Graham Coughlan after he was confirmed as Ian Culverhouse's replacement after the Pilgrims endure a disappointing start to the campaign.

Boston are currently in the bottom four of the National League and are seven points adrift of safety and will be hoping Wheeldon can work some of his magic to help steer the club out of trouble. He will wear squad number 18 during his time at the Jakemans Community Stadium and was due to make his debut this afternoon.
