Kilmarnock boss Derek McInnes would would bring an end to Rangers "rocky period".

That is the view of Ross McCormack with Philippe Clement coming under increased scrutiny at Ibrox in the midst of a nightmare campaign. Rangers came calling for McInnes back in 2017 while he was in charge at Aberdeen - but he would sensationally exit talks to become Pedro Caixinha's permanent successor at the 11th hour.

But the former Light Blues' star reckons he would be the right man for the job if the Belgian is shown the door speaking on the Open Goal Podcast: “I think McInnes would get Rangers beating every other team in the league and then one off games against Celtic, you never know. It depends on how Rangers look at it.

"If Rangers think that they’ve got a lot of players on the books that are not going to leave because say that their wages are too high so they’re going to sit there. Might take them two to three windows to get rid of all of their players.

“If that’s the case then they’re not going to be paying money to get other players in. In that case, I think Derek McInnes is a perfect one just to get them through that rocky period and then look at a bigger name.”

Incoming Ibrox CEO Patrick Stewart will start in his new role on December 16 - following a massive week for Belgian boss Clement where he will face Tottenham in the Europa League and Celtic in the Premier Sports Cup final. He is expected to be followed by Malcolm Offord as the new chairman - and McManus reckons that could present the perfect time for the new powerbrokers to pull the trigger.

He said: "I think it's set up for Partick Stewart and the new chairman who is coming in as well, it's set up for them to show they mean business and get rid of the manager straight away. I don't think they beat Tottenham or Celtic and I think the clamour after that game will be even bigger than it is now. I think they'll come in, clean slate, get in a new manager and endear themselves to the Rangers fans straight away."
