Fulham have been trying to bring former Liverpool midfielder Marko Grujic back to the Premier League, according to reports in Portugal.

Grujic previously was on the books at Liverpool between 2016 and 2021. However, he only made 16 appearances for their senior side over those years. The midfielder endured several loan spells away, the latter of which – with Porto – became permanent.

Grujic played 39 times during his loan spell in Portugal. This season was his first with them as a permanent player; he returned 36 appearances as they won the league-and-cup double.

In the process, it appears the Serbia international has emerged back on the radar of English clubs. According to Record, newly promoted Premier League side Fulham have made a move for his services.

It is claimed that Fulham have tabled an offer worth €18m (£15.4m). However, Porto do not feel that represents his true value. Indeed, they believe he could become even more expensive if he enjoys a good World Cup this winter.

Hence, it appears Porto’s stance, if they were to sell Grujic at all, would be to wait until they know his value is at its peak.

In turn, Fulham should be disappointed in their pursuit of the 26-year-old. They are, though, hoping to wrap up a deal for another player plying his trade in Portugal, Joao Palhinha.

In fact, their supposed deal for the Sporting CP midfielder would cost as much as what they were putting on the table for Grujic.

Grujic could get Prem chance one day

Six years since he signed for Liverpool, Grujic has finally got his career on track at a decent level with Porto.

There will remain a wonder of what might have been for him in the Premier League unless someone like Fulham can one day bring him back to English football.

Perhaps Grujic deserves that platform, but for now, competing at Champions League level with Porto could even be preferable.

Hence, he should continue enjoying his football for Porto, but you never know in football. Maybe one day his time will come again in England.
