Wolfsburg striker Jonas Wind has revealed he would love a future move to the Premier League to play for his “favourite club” Arsenal.

Wind, 23, is not a familiar name with Premier League football fans. In fact he has never been mentioned as a target for the Gunners. The Denmark forward has been mentioned as a target for Newcastle previously.

French outlet Jeunes Footeux claimed Newcastle were targeting the forward last October. West Ham were also reportedly keen on the player, who had bagged eight goals and five assists at the time to attract the watching scouts.

Copenhagen were reportedly seeking at least €20m for Wind’s signature. And in January he moved on to Bundesliga side Wolfsburg on a contract until 2026 after scoring 11 goals in 27 games for the Danish side.

“Jonas has very good technique, finds solutions in the tightest space. He has a good heading game and really works for the team,” said Wolfsburg sporting director Marcel Schafer. “Even though he brings a good deal of experience, we’re convinced his development still isn’t over and he can take the next step with us.”

Now though the player is already thinking about the next step and it’s a pretty big one too.

Speaking to Bulinews.com, Wind said: “If we look into the future, Arsenal would be a dream destination for me, as it has always been my favourite club.

“In general, I think the Premier League is the best league in the world. And it would be exciting to play there. But as I said, that’s not what I’m focusing on at the moment. I’m doing well here in Wolfsburg. It’s a good club for me, and the Bundesliga is a great league to play in.”

At almost 6ft 3in tall Wind is an imposing figure and he has been capped 15 times by Denmark.

Still, Arsenal have not shown any desire to land a target man in the previous windows under Mikel Arteta.

Wind injury

Arteta landed Gabriel Jesus as his focal point in the last transfer window. And the Brazilian has had a great start to his career at The Emirates. He has scored three times and grabbed three assists after starting all six league games.

It’s unlikely Arteta will change tact with the mobile approach Jesus brings, even though he is believed to have “very good technique”.

Wind is also currently injured having picked up a hamstring injury after coming on from the bench in Wolfsburg’s 2-2 draw with Werder Bremen.

Wind has not kicked a ball since the start of August. Although he is hoping to recover in time for the World Cup.

“I’m confident that I will recover from my injury in time for the World Cup. And it would be a dream come true for me to get called up,” added Wind.

A run-out in Qatar would be the perfect shop window for Wind. But as far as a move to Arsenal is concerned, it’s a very unlikely proposition.
