Devils sign Tatar, Sharangovich, name Dineen Utica coach

NEWARK, N.J. (AP) — The New Jersey Devils have signed free agent forward Tomas Tatar to a two-year, $9 million contract and re-signed restricted free-agent forward Yegor Sharangovich to a two-year $4 million deal.

Devils general manager Tom Fitzgerald announced the moves Thursday.

Tatar will earn $3,75 million this coming season and $5.25 million the following year, the team said. Sharangovich will get $1.8 million this coming season and $2.2 million in 2022-23.

Tatar, 30, spent the last three seasons with the Montreal Canadiens. He had 10 goals and 20 assists in 50 games. The Slovakian had 22 goals and 39 assists the previous season and 25 goals and 33 assists in 2018-19.

In 625 career NHL regular-season games over 10 seasons with Detroit, Vegas and Montreal, Tatar has recorded 176 goals and 201 assists. He also has six goals and six assists in 40 playoff contests.

Sharangovich had 16 goals and 14 assists in 54 games as a rookie last season. His three game-winning goals and his overall goals total ranked second on the team.

The Devils also named Kevin Dineen the coach of the Utica Comets, the club’s AHL affiliate. Sergei Brylin and Ryan Parent will return as assistant coaches with Brian Eklund handling goaltenders and Adam Purner the video.

Dineen, 57, spent the last two seasons serving as head coach of San Diego (AHL) in the Anaheim Ducks organization. Before San Diego, he was an assistant for five years with the Chicago Blackhawks, winning a Stanley Cup in his first year on Joel Quenneville’s staff.
