Di Corrado takes maiden win in Turkey

Andrea Di Corrado won stage five of the Tour of Turkey in Turgutreis.

The Colnago rider was part of a day-long break on the 178km stage from Marmaris and attacked his fellow escapees with 10km remaining.

The quintet went away on the first climb of the day and built up a maximum lead of a whopping 14:50.

Sebastien Duret (Bretagne-Schuller) was the highest ranked breakaway rider on GC, 5:17 back in 24th position, but Accent Jobs lead the chase behind the escapees to limit the losses.

Duret lost his virtual GC lead with 24km remaining and with the lead down to 3:15, the attacks began in the breakaway group on an ascent with 15km remaining.

Jonas Jorgensen (Saxo Bank) and Jerome Cousin (Europcar) tried their luck before the 23-year-old neo-pro timed his escape to perfection and he finished 40 seconds clear of Jorgensen and Cousin to record his maiden professional victory.

Fellow escapees Alfredo Balloni (Farnese), Duret and Dmitriy Gruzdev (Astana) completed the top six.

Ivaïlo Gabrovski (Konya Seker) retained the overall lead with three stages remaining after finishing in the peloton, which crossed the line 1:27 behind the leader.
