Diana Taurasi argues foul by telling refs 'I'll see you in the lobby later'

We’d all rather be at sporting events this summer instead of living with the difficulties and concerns of the COVID-19 pandemic.

But while we can’t be there, catching what professional athletes say on the court has been a real treat. And no one has lived up to it more than Phoenix Mercury legend Diana Taurasi.

Taurasi gets T’d up for remark to ref

Midway through the third quarter on Friday against the Minnesota Lynx, Taurasi was called for a shooting foul after a steal at the top of the key by the Lynx’s Napheesa Collier.

Taurasi — who said earlier this year there are no great defenders, just “professional foulers” — argued with the ref, her hands up and everything as she walked back. And as the commentators went quiet, it caught the perfect moment.

She picked up a technical foul for it, joining her technical on Wednesday for dubbing a call “bulls---” in a loss to the Los Angeles Sparks.

The WNBA GOAT is known for dropping curse words on the court. It’s been an ongoing focus on Twitter about how often mics will catch her comments. It’s also interesting that everyone involved in the WNBA’s 2020 season is staying in close quarters in the “wubble” at IMG Academy in Bradenton, Florida.

So, yes, Taurasi will probably run into every single ref in the lobby. Good luck, all.

The Mercury (6-7), who were without center Brittney Griner due to personal reasons, are on a three-game losing skid after the 90-80 loss.

Taurasi finished with 14 points in another rough outing from the floor. She shot 25 percent (3 of 12) overall and made only two of nine 3-point attempts. She made all six of her free throws and added two rebounds and an assist. The league’s all-time leading scorer missed three games last week due to lingering back issues.

Collier had another incredible night for the Lynx (9-3), scoring 20 points with nine rebounds, six assists and four steals.

The Mercury are currently sixth in the standings and in significant risk of falling out of a playoff spot with the Indiana Fever (5-7), Connecticut Sun (5-8) and Dallas Wings (5-8) staying close on their heels. There are only about 10 games left for each team.
