Paul Dickov hailed the impact of substitute Filipe Morais after Oldham produced a stirring fightback to beat Notts County 3-2 at Boundary Park.

The Latics were trailing 2-1 - Lee Hughes and Neal Bishop scoring either side of Luca Scapuzzi's equaliser - when Morais replaced the injured Scapuzzi midway through the second half. And Morais soon grabbed an equaliser before delivering the setpiece which brought Zander Diamond's late winner.

Dickov said: "Some of our fans were booing when I made the change, but they didn't realise Luca Scapuzzi was feeling his hamstring. Nobody was booing Filipe, but it's not easy for anybody to go on under those circumstances. I'm delighted with the way he changed the game and it was probably as good a performance as we've seen from him this season."

He added: "One of the hardest things to do as a substitute is to adapt to the pace and then make an impact, but Filipe was excellent. As a team we showed great character to come from behind, but we got what we deserved.

"It would have been easy for heads to go down, especially after our defeat and performance against Hartlepool on Boxing Day, but the boys kept believing.

"Even though we were behind at half-time, Notts County had scored from their only two shots and I knew we could get back into it.

"It was a horrible game in horrible conditions, but nobody should underestimate this result."

Notts County have suffered four straight defeats and manager Martin Allen is planning to shake up his squad.

He said: "It might be time to introduce some of our younger players because we can keep talking about errors but, at the end of the day, you have to look at different personnel.

"There were a lot of positives to take from this game and some really good performances, but other areas were highlighted that we need to strengthen. You can put on training sessions, teach people in the classroom and watch DVDs, but mistakes are still happening."
