An image of an old, wounded Sikh man is doing the rounds on social media platforms with a claim that he was savagely beaten up by the Delhi police during the farmers' protest on Republic Day.

Amid the soaring tempers, this picture with a misleading assertion was also shared by the Congress spokesperson Randeep Surjewala who later deleted his tweet.

The pic that is going viral now in context with farmers' protest is actually an old one. The man in the photo is not a farmer but a driver Sarabjeet Singh. He indeed was beaten up by the police but the incident happened in June 2019, not on Republic Day 2021. The incident back then had got a lot of traction on Twitter and the video had gone viral back then.

Three cops were suspended when the matter came to light and after an inquiry by a senior officer, two were dismissed from services.

Twitter suspended at least 500 accounts for 'spam and manipulation' in the aftermath of farmers' tractor rally but spared Surjewala's account despite an incendiary tweet.
