Atlético Madrid have expressed a desire to be kept informed of Chelsea striker Diego Costa’s intentions this summer, despite Tianjin Quanjian’s confidence of taking him to China.

Costa’s future at Chelsea remains uncertain with the 28-year-old possibly providing a hint he will leave by waving to each corner of Stamford Bridge when he was substituted in the final Premier League game of the season against Sunderland on Sunday.

Chinese Super League club Tianjin Quanjian are willing to pay £76 million to sign Costa and hand the Spain international a deal worth over £25m-a-year – figures Atlético or any other European club would not be able to or willing to match.

But Telegraph Sport understands Atlético, who tried to re-sign him last year, last week contacted the representatives of Costa to ask to be kept informed about what he wants to do this summer.

Atlético believe Costa would favour a return to Spain over a move to China, but it remains to be seen whether the player, his advisors or particularly Chelsea would accept a less lucrative deal for him to stay in Europe.Diego Simeone has confirmed he will stay at Atlético and the Argentine manager is personally pushing the interest in Costa as the pair remain close. They were pictured together as recently as last November.

Tianjin Quanjian think they have a verbal agreement in place for Costa, but the player himself has suggested that he has not yet committed himself to moving to China and has told friends that he would be interested in a return to Spain.

Atlético already have a verbal deal in place to sign Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, but, with the contract of Fernando Torres up for renewal, the on-going interest in Costa is not dependent on whether or not Lacazette moves to Spain.Any Atlético bid for Costa will depend on whether or not the Spaniards sell Manchester United target Antoine Griezmann and would be subject to their transfer embargo being lifted.

Representatives of Chelsea will this week meet with Monaco to try to negotiate a deal for midfielder Tiemoue Bakayoko, with the Ligue 1 champions interested in striker Michy Batshuayi.

Monaco want £50m for Bakayoko, while Chelsea are still undecided whether or not to let Batshuayi, who has scored in each of his last three appearances, leave – either on loan or permanently. Chelsea’s hopes of landing Bakayoko appear to have received a boost with the 22-year-old ruling out a move to Paris Saint-Germain.

“I can’t leave Monaco to go to PSG,” said Bakayoko. “It’s impossible, because I’ve just finished champion ahead of Paris. I can’t leave for a club that has finished behind me. “PSG is a club I carry in my heart because I’m a Parisian and I was a supporter of PSG, like my family. They initiated me.”
