Diogo Jota and Federico Chiesa injury latest as Arne Slot confirms triple Liverpool boost near
Liverpool head coach Arne Slot is set to receive a triple injury boost in the near future with Federico Chiesa and Diogo Jota among those nearing a comeback from spells on the sidelines.
Chiesa played an hour for the Reds' U21s side midweek, in which he scored, and Slot said both the Italian and Jota are "close" to being back during his press conference earlier today. Ibrahima Konate, Kostas Tsimikas and Conor Bradley are the only ones who are "further" from a return.
Alisson Becker is also nearing a comeback, though he will not be in goal for the Merseyside derby this weekend. The Brazilian has been absent since sustaining a hamstring issue against Crystal Palace at Selhurst Park.
"[Caoimhin Kelleher] is disappointed as we dropped points from a winning situation like all the others, but he will have confidence," Slot said when asked about the Irishman's mistake against Newcastle. "Alisson is not ready yet, but [he will be] very soon."
Alexis Mac Allister, meanwhile, is suspended for this weekend and the Champions League visit to Girona, and Slot was less-than impressed with the decision to book him on Wednesday night. "How is this possible because we hardly make any fouls? If you look at the decisions you can argue that it was not correct for Alexis's yellow," Slot said.
"Players will get suspended but we have three of the main four midfielders [available]. Harvey Elliott is on his way back, so that line is not our main worry."
Liverpool.com says: The Reds have definitely not struggled while the likes of Alisson, Jota and Chiesa have been out but the injury list has been starting to mount up. It would be handy if one or two of those returning could play in the defense with three out of eight in that position missing but the extra bodies in any department will be welcome.
