Disastrous start for Araujo

WRC Team Mini Portugal driver Armindo Araujo described his start to Rally Mexico as a disaster after turbo and throttle problems hindered his progress through the qualifying stage.

Araujo will be first on the road through the DC Shoes Street Stage in Guanajuato this evening, but the Portuguese admitted he did not know what this event held in store for him. Prodrive is flying out a new engine map for the Motorsport Italia team to fit to his John Cooper Works WRC before Friday's first gravel stage.

"The morning has been a disaster," said Araujo. "I missed one of my two runs at shakedown and then it was so difficult in the qualifying stage.

"The problem is with the turbo and the throttle. We have no boost and no anti-lag from the turbo and the throttle is staying on when you are lifting your foot from the pedal - this is not nice.

"I don't know what can happen now. Prodrive is sending the new map, but we will see. For sure, in this condition it's not going to be nice to drive the stage."
