Dmitry Orlov flips Matt Duchene with massive hip check (Video)
Washington Capitals defenseman Dmitry Orlov flipped Colorado Avalanche forward Matt Duchene with a perfectly timed hip check in the first period of their Tuesday game.
Here is the video of Orlov and Duchene coming together for the collision hit.
Caps television color analyst Craig Laughlin praised the play as the top hit he has seen from broadcast level.
Best hit I have seen in booth in 25 years–terrific for open ice! https://t.co/SzT1pkPvqG

Here is a great shot by Getty Images of Duchene right after the hit. Fortunately, he seemed to be OK.
Orlov has delivered quite a few highlight-reel level hip checks throughout his career. An Orlov hip check in 2012 flipped Steve Downie, then of the Tampa Bay Lightning.
In 2011 Orlov sent Winnipeg Jets forward Blake Wheeler flying.
And then there was this hip check on Lars Eller when Eller was with the Montreal Canadiens. The two are now teammates with the Caps.
Orlov took out New York Islanders forward Anders Lee with another hip check last season.
On the Duchene hit, Orlov didn’t receive any penalty and Duchene stayed in the game. It was overall just a textbook open ice hit.
