Dominik Szoboszlai has played down concerns after the Liverpool midfielder seemingly picked up an injury ahead of Euro 2024.

The 23-year-old is set to captain Hungary at this summer’s tournament in Germany. He was given a scare though in his country’s final warm-up game.

Hungary completed its preparations for the Euros with a comfortable 3-0 win over Israel in Debrecen. Szoboszlai though was forced off midway through the second half, raising concerns about his fitness on the eve of the tournament.

Szoboszlai received treatment on the pitch before being substituted in the 57th minute, with Hungary boss Marco Rossi taking no chances. The midfielder did make his way back onto the pitch after the game as the Hungary players were given a send-off before heading to Germany.

Szoboszlai has now addressed the concerns over his injury. Speaking to M4 Sport (via Bence Bocsak), the midfielder insisted his withdrawal was simply a precaution.

“I’ll be fine,” Szoboszlai said. “My legs were a little stiff, I didn't want to take any risks, that's why I came off.”

Szoboszlai won’t have too long to recover before Hungary gets its tournament underway in Germany. They play their first group game against Switzerland on June 15, before facing the hosts on June 19 and Scotland on June 23.

Liverpool.com says: Szoboszlai’s comments will come as a relief to Hungary supporters. The midfielder is arguably his nation’s biggest star, and they will be relying on him to lead them this summer.

The positive update will be greeted at Anfield as well. With Arne Slot beginning his reign this summer, the last thing he’ll want is one of his players being injured before pre-season even starts.
