Donny van de Beek: Injured Manchester United midfielder to miss Netherlands’ Euros campaign

Manchester United midfielder Donny van de Beek has been forced to withdraw from the Netherlands’ squad for Euro 2020 due to injury.

The Netherlands have not specified the exact nature of the problem, but confirmed on Tuesday morning that Van de Beek was “struggling” with the issue.

The midfielder has endured a difficult season at Manchester United after joining from Ajax last summer for a fee that could eventually rise to £40million.

The 24-year-old struggled for regular minutes at Old Trafford and had to accept sitting on the bench for much of the campaign.

However, Van de Beek was still named in Frank de Boer’s squad for this summer’s Euros.

The midfielder made his Netherlands debut as a teenager and has featured regularly for his country since then.

De Boer has opted not to call up a replacement for Van de Beek, with the Netherlands beginning their campaign against Ukraine in Amsterdam on Sunday.
