Arsenal legend Thierry Henry endured an awkward exchange with ex-Leeds United and Brentford striker Mike Grella while working for CBS Sports on Tuesday night. Henry was present alongside Kate Abdo, Jamie Carragher and Micah Richards once again in the studio as the revamped Champions League started.

Meanwhile, fellow CBS pundit Grella tagged along from afar while he was at San Siro for AC Milan's match with Liverpool. And that led to a heated debate about the MLS as Henry, who played for New York Red Bulls during a glittering career, claimed that American footballers from his time were better than the current group.

Henry said: "I've said it so many times, I played in the MLS and I thought the American-based players in the MLS were better than the American players now. Answer that one?"

The former France international demanded an answer from Grella and he wouldn't let anyone else step in. Grella then issued the following statement: "I know you played in MLS, I replaced you. Remember?"

Henry replied: "Don't go there... You won't win that argument. Do not go there."

That prompted a hilarious reaction from Carragher and Richards, who jumped out of their seats and walked away to the back of the studio. The ex-Liverpool defender could, then, be heard saying to Grella: "Mike, I think that's the end of your CBS career."

Henry continued to try and get an answer from Grella, who appeared to be tip-toeing around the subject. Grella, eventually, responded: "Probably, the answer is probably."

Having joined Red Bulls from Catalan giants Barcelona in 2010, Henry quickly established himself as a fans favourite at the club. During his four-and-a-half years - which was split by a short-term loan back at Arsenal - in New York, he scored 52 goals in 135 appearances before hanging up his boots.

After his departure, the Frenchman was replaced by Grella, who signed in 2015. The American grabbed 18 goals in 89 matches for Red Bulls before making the switch to Columbus Crew in 2018.
