Coventry have sacked manager Mark Robins after seven years in charge. His departure comes after the Sky Blues lost 2-1 at home to Derby on Wednesday, leaving them 17th in the Sky Bet Championship, only out of the relegation zone on goal difference.

The 54-year-old took charge in 2017, leading the club to promotion to League One the following year before reaching the Championship in 2020. The Sky Blues also made it to the Championship play-off final in 2023 but missed out on promotion to the Premier League after losing on penalties to Luton.

City also enjoyed a thrilling FA Cup run last season under Robins, going within touching distance of reaching the final after an incredible comeback saw them recover from three goals down in the last 20 minutes of their semi-final against Manchester United, who eventually won the match on penalties.

They finished ninth in the league last season but have only picked up 15 points from 14 games so far in the current campaign, prompting Robins’ shock exit.

Sky Blues supporters have been quick to have their say on the sacking, with some all for it, but a seeming majority concerned for the future direction of the club with Robins no longer at the helm.

Here is how some of them reacted to our breaking story confirming Robins departure from the CBS Arena…

Clint99: Unbelievable. Best manager in the EFL and the best we've ever had. We were inches away from the Premier League and an FA cup final. Good luck Mark, thanks for a great few years.

Sky1987bluesalways: It seems to me that the board feels like some on here - he has lost the dressing room. Personally I would like to thank him for what he has done for the club. We now all wait for who will replace him, and the board must get it right as personally I feel they have made a massive mistake in getting rid of MR. We are in a relegation battle with a few talented players, a few seem as if they don't care or don't want to be here and a few are not up to Championship standards. Good luck to whoever we bring in and good luck to MR in his next role. #PUSB

Variscorrupt: DK you have failed the club - 14 months on and still not replaced Hamer.

4u2: I'll shed no tears… didn't know his players’ best positions and abilities. Thanks anyway MR.

Scotty69: We have to say a huge thanks to Mark Robins, the journey has been incredible. Club legend in my opinion, second only to Jimmy Hill in managerial terms. I have said many times the sudden exit of Viveash was the beginning of the end for MR this season. He appears to have lost his way since then. I hope Deadly [Doug King] knows what he is doing as the next appointment is critical. I trust there is someone already lined up.

Mercianfm: A disgraceful decision.

Keithmac: The guy had banked enough good will to retain his position through more than this. We just beat two good teams scoring six goals! Crowd still singing his name every match. Derby result was a freaky one off, born of two individual errors. This just doesn't feel right.

Tcd3914: Best news of the season! Doug King doesn't take kindly to failure. We have won 4 league games in nearly half a season. The biggest budget EVER given to a Coventry manager and only goal difference is keeping us from the relegation places. He has shown how tactically inept he is, which has been proven since Adi Veavash was terminated from his role. Sentiment only gets you so far in life, including on a football pitch.

Jokes: I'm actually stunned. He (and Adi) has pulled us up from the lower leagues right up to a play off final. Look at losing Gyokeres, Hamer and asked to find a replacement? Mark has quite simply worked miracles for us. Form is temporary, Quality is Indispensable.

Charliehopper: This is a kneejerk reaction and could well destroy the club. Thank you Mark for your great service and humility whilst saving our club from dire straits. To Doug King, who has invested so much money into the club, I say beware. Success does not come easy in football. You may have the final say in the way the club is run but you may not be able to carry all the fans with you on your journey. Football is about passion and Mark has it in spades, but look around at all the changes you have made Doug - maybe that is the reason for City's poor showing recently.

Peppa07: Shocked and dismayed. Mark Robins, as the club's statement says, has been an incredible asset since 2017, seeing the club through some of its darkest years. I fail to see the logic here. This is a tough league but Robins in no way endangered our status in the Championship. Seems the club has pressed the panic button.

Adam Toms: I can't believe it. He pulled us back from the brink, and was one kick away from delivering ecstasy. The fans clearly wanted to keep him - we kept singing his name. I can't help but think this risks a slippery slope. We need to pick a perfect replacement, or the club risks sliding down the leagues again.
