It’s A Dream To Be Honest – Ollie Robinson On Winning His First Man Of The Match Award

After his Twitter saga was put to bed, for which he had also received suspension right after his debut in June, Ollie Robinson has now emerged as a serious contender to take over the mantle when James Anderson retires.

He bagged his second five-wicket haul of the series against India in Leeds, and helped England level the series. He had earlier, at Trent Bridge in the first Test, claimed his maiden fifer.

At Headingley, his five wickets in the second innings and 2/16 in the first earned him the Man of the Match award – his first in Test cricket. Bowling in tandem with Anderson remains an honour for the 27-year-old, who has troubled the Indian batsmen throughout the series with his accurate line and length.

“It’s a dream to be honest, to get a man of the match award in my first win for England. I enjoyed bowling here before, and it’s nice to use the conditions here, so I’m happy to get a five-for here,” Ollie Robinson said at the post-match presentation.

“To bowl with Jimmy and learn from him is an honour. It has only improved my game. I keep learning and trying to be as good as possible.

It’s nice to get Virat Kohli; It’s a simple plan against him: Ollie Robinson

Ollie Robinson now has 23 wickets in 4 Tests at a brilliant average of 17.65. And while there are some big names in his wicket list, including that of Kane Williamson and Rohit Sharma, he cherishes dismissing India captain Virat Kohli twice – one at Lord’s and the other at Headingley.

Both the dismissals came via an outside edge as he drew the Indian skipper poking outside the off-stump, a setup with which Anderson has troubled Kohli a lot.

The lanky pacer said that he was happy to account for Kohli after he had been struck for a couple of boundaries. The plan, Robinson says, to Kohli has been well documented.

“It’s nice to get Kohli, after he got me for two fours in the over – it’s a simple plan to Virat, fourth and fifth stump, get it to angle away, and hope he nicks it and he did,” the pacer stated.

Both the teams travel back to London for the fourth Test at Kennington Oval, starting September 2nd.
