Police stopped a driver for going too slowly on the motorway.

Roads Policing Unit officers noticed a car joining the motorway at just 30mph in the early hours of Wednesday morning.

Then, the vehicle did not pick up much speed while travelling on the inside lane.

The person behind the wheel decided to drive at 40mph, well below the 70mph speed limit.

After police pulled the car over, they found that the driver did not have a licence.

The car has since been seized and the driver has received a summons to appear in court for the offence.

There is no official minimum speed limit on the motorway but travelling too slowly can be dangerous and possibly considered as careless driving.

A minimum speed limit is marked by a blue, circular sign that contains the minimum speed limit.

The end of the minimum speed limit is indicated by the same sign but with a red line through it.
