Arsenal are ready to press ahead with an ambitious move for Dusan Vlahovic, which could pave the way for Eddie Nketiah to join Crystal Palace.

The Gunners are working on deal worth around £58million to sign the Fiorentina forward, who has been one of the most prolific strikers in Europe this season. Tottenham are also interested in the 21-year-old Serbia international, but Arsenal are ready to intensify talks in a bid to lure him to Emirates Stadium.

Vlahovic has scored 23 goals in 29 appearances for Fiorentina this season. He is reported to be demanding wages of up to £300,000 a week and it remains to be seen whether he would accept a move to Arsenal given they face major competition for the in-form marksman.

Juventus and Manchester City have also been linked with Vlahovic, but Arsenal hope to convince him of the project Mikel Arteta is building at the club.

Vlahovic is refusing to sign a new contract at Fiorentina and the only question is whether he leaves the Serie A club now or in the summer.

Arteta has said Arsenal are “open” to a big deal this month and signing a striker is a priority.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang appears to have no future under Arteta after being stripped of the captaincy last month following a disciplinary breach, while Alexandre Lacazette is out of contract in the summer.

Nketiah is also in the final six months of his contract and has turned down a new deal, and Palace are in talks to sign him. The 22-year-old has made only three substitute appearances in the League this season and wants regular football.

He started Sunday’s 1-0 FA Cup defeat by Nottingham Forest but had a quiet afternoon and missed Arsenal’s best chance when he failed to convert a free header.

His departure would leave Arsenal short of striking options and Arteta will only sanction an exit for Nketiah if he can bring someone in.

Palace tried to sign Nketiah in the summer but the deal collapsed and they instead moved to sign Odsonne Edouard in a £15m transfer from Celtic.

Arsenal have also shown interest in Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jonathan David from Lille. They are also interested in Lyon midfielder Bruno Guimaraes.
