In what was one of the most entertaining finales in recent memory, Michael Smith beat Danny Noppert 8-7 to win the Dutch Darts Championship in Zwolle. The match went the distance, with Smith needing a 104 check out, one of three checkouts over 100, to win the final game in a clash that saw eight breaks of throw. Smith cashed in with five 180s while Noppert notched up four of his own. It caps off a brilliant week for Smith, who won his first Premier League Darts weekly title before winning on the European tour once again. It is also sweet, sweet redemption for Smith, who has been on a bit of a losing streak against Noppert since their encounter in the UK Open final. The crowd in Zwolle was well aware of the record and vocally behind Dutchman Noppert all night, but Smith managed to hold his nerve and claim a famous win.

The standard was incredibly high all night with some huge checkouts and clutch darts in key situations to keep the contest close and intriguing. It was back and forth all night with the opening five games all going with serve before Smith broke in the sixth. That was followed by another seven consecutive breaks before Noppert eventually held again to make it 7-7 and set up a grandstand finish. Smith finished up with an impressive 104 checkout to claim the title and silence the home crowd, leaving Noppert with just 132 on the board.
