Burnley Fan View: Dyche will keep pushing Burnley for more points

Burnley manager Sean Dyche will not think the job is done as his side continue to pile up the points as the season draws to a close.

With games quickly running out in the 2016/17 Premier League season, it is becoming increasingly likely that Burnley will remain a top flight club next season, in spite of our own poor form.

However this is not going to be the way Dyche sees the task ahead, as we aim to build on our best ever Premier League points haul. Even forgetting the financial rewards for finishing higher up the table, the mantra at the club would never allow players to relax and we go to win every contest whether that’s in training or on the Turf Moor pitch.

This might mean some players do not get another chance to shine if they are not up to the task. Steven Defour might have played his last game for Burnley if rumours are to be believed that he is leaving in the summer. I would be very disappointed if so but from a business and tactical point of view I can fully understand it.

Dan Agyei might have been a player that featured more often if and after survival is to be confirmed, but I can see Dyche keeping his strongest XI in games as long as the season still has matches to play.

I know some Burnley fans have spoken about a few tweaks tactically to try to play a different way next season. Away from home we need to improve and a 3-5-2 formation has been suggested by some – I wouldn’t be averse to this if it gets a back three of Ben Mee, Michael Keane and James Tarkowski on the pitch. With Keane likely to leave next season, a new replacement would find it even more difficult to adapt to a new formation as well as developing chemistry.

A win against Manchester United on Sunday would be enough to keep us up, even if Swansea and Hull can secure wins on the Saturday. The season doesn’t end when we secure survival though, it ends when the final whistle blows on the last game. If any manager will be drilling that into his players it is going to be Sean Dyche. We can build for the future after we have completed the season and not a moment before.

Looking at the remaining fixtures, Burnley have 3 home games to come against Man United, West Brom and West Ham, along with trips to Bournemouth and Crystal Palace. We can get something out of every one of those games and an away win would be a good reward for the fans who have traveled the length of the country without yet seeing a win.

We take it one game at a time and focus on Man United on Sunday.
