EastEnders' Charlie Brooks achieves "childhood dream" as play transfers to West End

EastEnders star Charlie Brooks has confirmed she has achieved her "childhood dream" of appearing in the West End, with her play The Ocean at the End of the Lane set to transfer to London.

The actress last appeared as Janine Butcher on the BBC One soap over Christmas, with the character now imprisoned as part of a storyline involving Linda and Mick.

The actress has since been touring the UK with the stage adaptation of Neil Gaiman's novel over the past few months, and it has now been announced that it will return to the West End this October for a limited run of seven weeks at the Noël Coward Theatre.

"My childhood dream of being in the West End is going to happen, after 25 years in this industry and I can’t wait," Charlie captioned an Instagram post. "I couldn’t have hoped for a more magical, meaningful, wild and wonderful production to be part of."

The actress plays the role of Ursula/Skarthatch in the production, appearing alongside the likes of Trevor Fox, Millie Hikasa and Kemi-Bo Jacobs.

The story follows a man who returns to his childhood and is transported to a magical world.

Speaking previously about taking on the role, Charlie said: "I had no idea how much of a spectacle and theatrical journey this play would be when I was even in the rehearsal room.

"It can be scary at times. It can make you jump. It's a beautiful story of a young boy's self-discovery and dealing with trauma. To hear that immediate response from audiences, old and young, is quite fantastic."

Meanwhile, last month the actress teased a possible return as Janine on EastEnders in the future, telling The Sun: "She is always fun to play. I'm always interested in what she's doing and what's she's up to, so there's always a possibility."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
