EastEnders' Danny Walters responds to co-star exit

EastEnders star Danny Walters has responded to his on-screen mother's upcoming exit from the BBC soap.

It was recently announced that Lorraine Stanley would be leaving her role as Karen Taylor after six years in Walford, with her exit set to air later this year.

Addressing Lorraine's departure at the National Television Awards on Tuesday night (September 5), Danny, who plays Karen's son Keanu, told the Daily Star that it's a "shame to see her go".

"I don't know when she leaves or how she leaves but I know it's been announced," he shared.

"I'm just pleased to have worked with Lorraine and known her for five years. It will be a shame to see her go but I wish her the best of luck."

Addressing her own exit last month, Lorraine said that she's "sad to be saying goodbye to Karen Taylor and will miss all the cast and crew at Eastenders".

She continued: "However, I'm looking forward to my next chapter and excited about being a jobbing actor again and starting new ventures."

Meanwhile, Shona McGarty will also be leaving the soap after 15 years to pursue new opportunities.

"I have decided to spread my wings and will be leaving EastEnders," the actress, who plays Whitney Dean, told The Sun when her exit was announced. "I have loved my years in the show. I have been trusted with some incredible storylines and have made amazing friendships – and family – which will endure."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
