EastEnders star Danny Walters discusses surprise new friendship for Keanu Taylor

EastEnders spoilers follow.

EastEnders star Danny Walters, who plays Keanu Taylor on the BBC soap, has discussed the surprising friendship his character forms with Reiss Colwell.

In upcoming scenes, Sharon buys The Arches from Phil Mitchell for Keanu, though it's not long before she calls in Reiss to help with the accounts.

Although Keanu is initially frustrated by this and feels like Sharon doesn't trust him, he eventually accepts it after realising that having Reiss there is what's best for the business.

"Keanu and Reiss are worlds apart in terms of their age and characteristics. They probably wouldn’t go for a drink down at the pub together – they’re just two different characters," Walters explained.

"For this reason, I think Keanu feels a little bit frustrated when Reiss joins the business because they’ll have to try and get along and be friends."

However, after Reiss and Sonia invite themselves over for dinner with Keanu and Sharon, we "begin to to see a softer side to Keanu and see him start to warm towards to Reiss."

Going on to discuss the pressure Keanu initially feels when beginning this new business venture, the soap star said: "He’s definitely shocked at first and quite overwhelmed with the scale of it all. He’s worked at The Arches before but being the boss is a little bit daunting for him.

"Having said that, over time he starts to embellish the boss role and a big part of that is his want to provide for his Albie, lead by example and work hard to financially provide for his family."

While Keanu is met with some snide remarks from Phil at The Vic, Walters said that this only makes Keanu "want to fight harder and prove himself more."

EastEnders airs on Mondays - Thursdays at 7.30pm on BBC One. The show also streams on BBC iPlayer.
