ECU pair nab conference basketball awards

Mar. 8—RUSSELLVILLE, Ark. — The Great American Conference released its yearly All-Conference award winners on Wednesday, with Mackenzie Crusoe of women's basketball and Keyon Thomas of men's basketball representing East Central University as the sole recipients for their respective teams.

As key players for the Tigers this season, the seniors were recognized for their work on the court, with Crusoe receiving All-GAC Second Team accolades while Thomas earned All-GAC Honorable Mention honors.

Crusoe earns All-GAC Second Team honors for the third-straight season after leading the Tigers with 16.7 points and 6.5 rebounds per game during her standout 2023-24 season. The Choctaw, Oklahoma native's16.7 points per game are the most by a Tiger in recent history while scoring consistent double-digits in 24 out of the 25 total games she has played, including five 20-point performances. She currently sits in third in the GAC in scoring. Additionally, her versatility was evident as she secured 163 rebounds, ranking her seventh in the GAC.

As for the men's basketball team's leading scorer, Thomas, he clinched his second consecutive All-GAC Honorable Mention accolade after amassing 398 total points this season for an average of 14.2 points per game. The senior from Kansas City, Kansas, showcased his power on the court with 20 double-figure scoring games this season, including nine surpassing the 20-point mark. His career-best 29-point performance in the final game wearing an orange and black uniform secured the Senior Day victory last weekend.
