Eddie Howe drops Newcastle United team news hint as star set for under-21 appearance

As it stands, Newcastle United youngster Lewis Miley will feature for the club's under-21 side in Friday evening's clash with Crystal Palace - and therefore not travel to Selhurst Park with the senior side for Saturday's Premier League showdown.

A double injury blow in Monday's defeat to West Ham United opened the door for the 18-year-old to be recalled to Eddie Howe's squad for this weekend's trip to the capital. However, Joe Willock has trained all week after a leg issue and Bruno Guimaraes looks to have recovered from a muscle problem.

For Miley, that means no place in the first-team squad for the second successive matchday.

"At the moment [he won’t travel]," Howe told reporters on Friday morning. "As I say, we’ve got to train first so let’s see how we get through training but the plan is that I feel Lewy needs to play.

"He was injured for a period of time and games will do him the world of good rather than travelling with us."

Guimaraes' inclusion is vital for Newcastle's chances of success, given the Magpies have not won any of their seven matches when the Brazilian has been left out.

“That’s not a great stat, is it?" Howe responded when quizzed on the matter. "Hopefully we don’t have to figure that out [how to play with out him], I don’t know [the answer to that] because he’s in the team so let’s keep him there.”

Newcastle travel to the capital this weekend hoping to swiftly get back on track after Monday's unexpected defeat to West Ham at St James' Park. The north east outfit are looking for 'consistency' with their performances, admits Howe, and have a strong chance of returning to form when they face a Palace side who are struggling to string results together themselves.
