Eddie Howe told how to make Newcastle ‘unstoppable’ with one factor crucial for top-name arrival

A journalist claims Newcastle United could become ‘unstoppable’ if they are able to bring in the right attacking players in the January transfer window.

The Magpies have enjoyed a meteoric rise since Eddie Howe replaced Steve Bruce at the helm in November 2021. With the financial backing of Saudi Arabia’s PIF, successful recruitment has seen them break into the Premier League top four. A number of players have been brought into the club, with sums spent only dreamt of during the disastrous Mike Ashley era.

But it has not just been down to new faces at the club, with Howe getting the best out of players who previously struggled.

The likes of Miguel Almiron and Joelinton are now making telling contributions. The former has found the net nine times in the top flight and leads the club’s goal scoring charts.

That is the same number of league goals that the Paraguay international scored in his past three seasons combined.

The Tynesiders sit third in the Premier League table having lost just once in 2022-2023.

And a goalless draw with table-topping Arsenal at the Emirates last time out proved just how far they have come.

Journalist Tam McManus had given his take on the situation. The former Hibs and Dundee forward has been blown away by the club’s progress and fears for the rest with the right additions.

“Newcastle are scoring a lot of goals this season, they have so much quality going forward,” he told Football Insider.

“Then you remember Isak is coming back too. Wilson, Almiron, Saint-Maximin, Isak, then you add some more quality in there.

“Ryan Fraser and Jacob Murphy as well, they have been doing a job this season, Murphy especially. So you add someone else in there and, well, wow.”

McManus expects top Newcastle signings

Unsurprisingly, Newcastle continue to be linked with many big-name players due to their financial status.

Most will not arrive in the north east but there is no doubting Howe’s desire to improve his squad.

With that in mind, Leicester City midfidler James Maddison is said to be on the radar. The 26-year-old has taken his game to another level over the past couple of years.

He was selected for England’s World Cup squad but failed to make an appearance due to injury.

It has been suggested that the talented playmaker is keen to try his luck elsewhere and craves a club that can offer Champions League football.

Newcastle may well be able to grant him his wish if their progress continues at the current pace.

And McManus feels the addition of just one more world-class star could make them a serious force in English football.

“You are talking about a top attack. We have seen Newcastle win 4-0 and 5-0 a couple of times this season, that will happen even more often if they can bring in a top player,” he added.

“I’m sure it’s something they are looking to do and if it does happen you have to say they might be unstoppable.

“There are always improvements to be made and we know Newcastle aren’t afraid to spend.”

Newcastle’s next league action is against Fulham on Sunday, January 15  when Marco Silva brings the in-form Cottagers to St James’ Park.
