Crystal Palace have entered talks to sign Eddie Nketiah, but any potential deal could hinge on whether Arsenal sign Dusan Vlahovic.

Nketiah is out of contract at Arsenal at the end of the season and looks set to leave Emirates Stadium after turning down a new deal.

Palace tried to sign Nketiah last summer but the deal collapsed and they instead moved to bring in Odsonne Edouard in a £15million transfer from Celtic.

Eagles manager Patrick Vieira wants to revisit a move for the England Under-21 international but his departure from Arsenal would leave the Gunners short of striking options.

Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been frozen out since being stripped of the captaincy last month and Alexandre Lacazette is out of contract in the summer. Mikel Arteta will only sanction a deal for Nketiah if he can bring someone else in.

Arsenal are ready to press ahead with an ambitious move for Vlahovic and are working on deal worth around £58m to sign the Fiorentina forward.

The Gunners have also shown interest in Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin and Jonathan David from Lille.

If Arsenal do sign a striker this month, that will pave the way for Nketiah to join Palace. The 22-year-old has made only three substitute appearances in the Premier League this season and wants regular football.

He started Arsenal’s 1-0 FA Cup defeat by Nottingham Forest on Sunday but had a quiet evening and missed their best chance when he failed to convert a free header.

Palace have Edouard, Jean-Philippe Mateta and Christian Benteke as forward options but Mateta could leave to join Saint-Etienne if they are able to bring in Nketiah.

Mateta joined Palace on loan from German side Mainz last January but has struggled to establish himself as a regular at Selhurst Park and has not made enough appearances to trigger a clause to make the move permanent.

Palace and Mainz are in talks to find a solution which could see Palace pay a fee to Mainz before sending Mateta out on loan themselves.

Newcastle have registered an interest in the 24-year-old as Eddie Howe looks to bolster his forward line, while Swiss side Basel could also move for him.
