Edouard Mendy believes Sadio Mane’s exit could have a “huge impact” on Liverpool.

The Chelsea goalkeeper plays alongside the newly-signed Bayern Munich forward at international level, with the pair lifting Senegal’s first Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year.

Mane, who Jurgen Klopp hailed as one of Liverpool’s greatest ever players, moved to the Bundesliga giants in June, breaking up one of the Premier League’s most celebrated attacking units.

The former Southampton star, along with Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino, helped fire Liverpool back to the top of the game, winning every major trophy available during their five years together.

Darwin Nunez has arrived to refresh Klopp’s attacking options, although the Uruguayan faces an almighty task to directly replace Mane.

Last season, only Heung-min Son, Salah, Cristiano Ronaldo and Harry Kane scored more than Mane’s 16 Premier League goals, with the 30-year-old showing little of slowing down.

Speaking during Chelsea’s tour of the US, Mendy said: “‘I think it is a big loss for the Premier League in terms of quality and in terms of the person.

“We’ve lost someone great and I hope for him he will enjoy the Bundesliga.

“He’s also a big loss [to Liverpool] because of his quality, the impact he makes and also because, for the young players, he’s an example. When you lose someone like this it can have a huge impact.”
