Arsenal could be set to receive a surprise boost to their transfer kitty this summer.

The summer transfer window has officially opened and the Gunners are now free to negotiate deals to sign new players.

It remains to be seen what players Mikel Arteta and Co. will look to bring to the Emirates Stadium this summer ahead of the next Premier League season.

It's not just new signings that are the subject of speculation in the transfer window, but also departures. One player who could be heading for the exit door at Arsenal this summer is Reiss Nelson.

According to The Athletic, Nelson has informed Arsenal that he wishes to mull over his future with the club this summer.

It has been reported that the Gunners could look to cash in on the forward, with a price tag of £20 million listed for his signature.

Nelson had to settle for a back-up role in Arteta's squad last season, making 23 appearances in all competitions but only five starts including just one in the Premier League. West Ham, Fulham, Crystal Palace and Nottingham Forest are mentioned in the report as showing an interest in signing Nelson this summer.

It was only last year that Nelson was heading for the exit door at Arsenal when his contract with the club expired. However, the forward eventually signed a four-year deal that runs until 2027 with the option of a further year.

The decision by Arsenal to award Nelson a new contract, which would have been led by sporting director Edu, could see the club earn millions of pounds. The Gunners were facing the prospect of the 24-year-old, who is a product of the club's academy, leaving on a free transfer and could now receive a £20 million fee for his signature instead.

Arsenal are likely to have several targets that the club will be contemplating making an offer to sign this summer. An additional £20 million from Nelson's exit would go a long way to helping Arteta and Co. build the squad for next season.
