Agent Kia Joorabchian's close relationship with sporting director Edu could be a key factor for Arsenal to beat off competition to sign Bologna striker Joshua Zirkzee.

Mikel Arteta will be determined to bolster his squad this summer after Arsenal missed out on the Premier League title by just two points. They will, however, be involved in the Champions League.

Last year, the club spent over £200million on Kai Havertz, Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber. There were also plenty of sales to balance the books.

Zirkzee meanwhile, has been heavily linked with a move to the Emirates Stadium following his impressive performances in Serie A. The 23-year-old striker, who had a breakout season at Bologna, is also linked with Manchester United, Inter and AC Milan.

However, Corriere dello Sport claim that Joorabchian's close relationship with Edu could work in Arsenal's favour, with their pursuit gaining momentum. The agent has dealt with Arsenal transfer chief 'plenty of times', suggesting that Edu is confident of securing a favourable deal for Zirkzee.

The report also adds that a four-year contract is reportedly 'already on the table' for the striker, along with a significant increase in his wages. However, Bologna will reportedly not sell Zirkzee for less than his £34m (€40m) release clause.

Speaking about his future to Corriere di Bologna (via Goal), Zirkzee said: "At the moment my mind is only in Bologna. I want to recover from the injury, have some nice holidays in the United States with my childhood friends and then we’ll see what happens.

"I’d choose the best for the club. I will only do what makes sense in my heart. It’s clear that for me it would be wonderful to defend this goal achieved together. What we experienced in Piazza Maggiore was unforgettable."

Zirkzee also shared his excitement to be playing in the Champions League next season after Bologna finished fifth. "I dreamed of playing it since I was a child, I won it with Bayern Munich, but now it will be exciting to play it, because with the German club it’s as if I hadn’t done it. Now I’ll be on the pitch living the moment."
