Hull City's busy winter transfer window ended on Monday with John Egan arriving on a permanent deal from Championship rivals. In a typical football quirk, his debut could come at Turf Moor next Wednesday evening.

As the dust begins to settle on the past month's business, City must decide who features in their 25-man squad which must be submitted to the EFL by 11pm on Tuesday night. Once the EFL has received all the club's squads, they'll release a complete list of who has been registered and who has not.

Going into the window, City knew they must free up space in their squad to allow for new arrivals, having maxed out their numbers after a manic summer spending spree, while Ruben Selles was keen to lower the number of players in his squad.

City have the option to de-register Liam Millar and Mohamed Belloumi with the pair sidelined until at least the summer with their ACL injuries, while a decision will need to be taken over Oscar Zambrano. His suspension means he won't play again this season. However, his hearing with the Court of Arbitration for Sport is set to take place at the end of this month, which could change the outcome, but the club are working on the basis that he will not feature.

While eight players have arrived, 12 have left, though that does include a small number of youngsters like Jake Leake and Henry Sandat who were not part of the first team squad in any case. Wwhile the UK window has closed, there's still time for further departures in the coming days with the Turkish window not shutting until February 15. Whether or not Dogukan Sinik is registered would be a good indication of whether or not he will be allowed to leave in the next few days.

Championship clubs can have squads of up to 25 players, eight of which need to be homegrown. You are allowed an unlimited amount of Under-21s on permanent deals without them being registered. However, this is not the case with loan players who must be registered with the EFL even if they are under the age of 21.

Once the window closes as it did at 11pm on Monday night, clubs must also ensure there is at least one player who has been club-developed in the squad.

Given City didn't end up adding to their loan ranks on deadline day, Ruben Selles need not be too concerned about having to leave players out given he has the maximum five loans in his squad.

What qualifies as homegrown and club-developed?

Homegrown players can be any nationality but to qualify, they have to have been registered with any club in England or Wales for at least three seasons before their 21st birthday. For a club-developed player, it means somebody who was at the club for at least a year before his last season with the Under-19s.

Where do City stand?

Given all of their outgoings this month, the Tigers are now well within the squad rules. The likes of Thimothee Lo-Tutala, Abu Kamara, Mason Burstow and Harry Vaughan are all classed as Under-21 players.
